BIOGRAPHY

French born Pierre Folliet is an architect and an artist.

He has been living in the United States for more than 40 years and considers himself a real New Yorker, residing on the Upper Westside and facing Riverside Park.

He has had many Solo and Group Shows both in France and in New York and his work is represented in Private Collections and in important Public Collections including the French National Library (Prints Collection), the Ville de Paris Department of Art Works and the New York City Department of Parks and Recreation.

Working from direct observation, his main inspiration is NATURE as reflected in some of his exhibitions titles: “Parks and Blooms” (2008),  “Landscapes” (1999) or “Seasons” (1990).

His favorite medium is Watercolor which he chose for its transparency, brilliance of colors and technical rigor.

He often will concentrate on the same view, painting it at different times of the day, catching the ever changing light and the different color palette of the Seasons.

His aim is to capture this moment of immersion and to communicate it to others:  the moods of Nature, calm and serene on a bright winter morning or agitated and brusque on a stormy summer afternoon.

He soon wanted to find a more complete form of expression by combining image and text as seen in Japanese scrolls.

For more 10 years now, Pierre Folliet has produced seasonal HAIKUS and TANKAS.  (insert Haiku image).

These traditional Japanese forms of poetry attract him for their rigorous structure and their ability to render the MOMENT in vivid “brush strokes”.
